Joseph Pilates called his method of exercise Contrology. This method uses the mind to control the body. The program focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath, alignment of the spine, and aims to strengthen the deep torso muscles of the core. Once the various exercises have been learned, movement is expected to be kept continuous through the use of appropriate transitions. Once precision has been achieved, the exercises are intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength and stamina.
Depending on each client’s needs, Firmen blends Pilates with exercise movements from yoga, kettlebell training and traditional lifting. Always with an eye on increasing functional fitness to the optimum level for every client at every stage of life.
